Q - question

Material-based hatch patterns in Inventor section views.

A - answer To set a hatch pattern based on the part material type (not only the standard "Steel"), use the hatch context menu. Right-click on the section hatch and set Pattern > By Material. But first define the requested hatch patterns (PAT) for the used materials in your style library (otherwise this option will be grayed out, inactive).

In the Style Editor, create a copy of you current standard and on the "Material Hatch Pattern Defaults" tab, click on the button "From Style Library" to load materials. In the loaded materials list, choose the material to change the hatch pattern (in the sample: Wood/Drevo-tresen) and in the column "Hatch Pattern" select the requested pattern. You can choose from the predefined hatch patterns from the template, or load any external PAT file (e.g. from AutoCAD or Revit). Don't forget to save the changes of your style.

You can also "hatch" your section with a solid fill. Just define a new hatch pattern "Solid", using a file SOLID.PAT containing:

*SOLID, Solid fill
45, 0, 0, 0, 0.0005
