Q - question

A closed polyline cannot be extruded.

A - answer Make sure you have a closed, 2D polyline (or lighweight polyline - LWPOLYLINE). The polyline must not be self-intersecting (loops) and should not have any duplicate vertices (even the start- and end-vertex). All vertices should have the same Z-coordinate (in the current UCS).
To fix the complaining polyline, try the OVERKILL Express Tool or retrace it using the _BPOLY command.
