Q - question

Freeing memory in 3ds max.

A - answer Incremental saves on certain files, some plugins and other circumstances may lead to 'memory leaks' - where more RAM is consumed than neccessary.

Try to manually invoke the 'garbage collector' function. In the white pane of the MaxScript Mini Listener (field at the bottom left) type gc() and press Enter. This function also clears the undo buffer.
