Q - question

What is the difference between .BAK, .SV$ and .AC$ backup files?

A - answer These file types are different backup and temporary files created by AutoCAD.
  • BAK files are backup files created on manual Saves (save commands) in AutoCAD (previous DWG versions)
  • SV$ files are automatic timed backups (autosave) of drawings (deleted on successful AutoCAD exit)
  • AC$ files are temporary AutoCAD working files for various functions (undo, hidden lines...), ac$ files do not contain drawing data

Some AutoCAD functions may also create .TMP files with temporary data (drawings cannot be reconstructed from these files).
