Q - question

Batch convert layers and colors in your mechanical drawings.

A - answer AutoCAD Mechanical contains a powerful function for conversion of layer names (incl. their color and linetype settings) in DWG drawing files.

The AMCONVDWG command (Utilities > Script > Convert current drawing) is driven by a conversion table - a .CCF file, and a template file. The CCF text file can be prepared manually (see samples in C:\Program Files\Autodesk\MDT 2006\Acadm\Gen\Conv) or assisted by the .ALZ file from the AMANALYSEDWG command.

To convert (translate) multiple drawings at a time you can use another useful AutoCAD Mechanical command - AMSCRIPT - to perform batch conversion of e.g. a whole DWG folder to a new layer standard.
