Q - question

Automatic names in Inventor iProperties.

A - answer Since Inventor version 2008 you can use automatic (parametric) texts in the iProperties of your Inventor parts. These texts can be derived from the model dimension parameters, including computed parameters. So you can automatically name dimensional variants of your iParts.

First use the Parameters function to define the required parameters for iProperties - e.g. use Add to define user parameters. Check their Export checkbox.

Function - parameters (Czech version shown)

Now run the iProperties dialog and enter e.g. the Title as an expression starting with the equal sign ("="). Enclose the required parameters in angle brackets ("<",">"):

= Podlozka <SIRKA> x <DELKA>
= Plate <WIDTH> x <LENGTH>

Parametric name (CZ version)

A detected expression is indicated by fx. The expression is then evaluated. The expression (name) is re-evaluated (automatically updated) on any change of the parameters.
