Q - question

How to convert local characters from AutoCAD R12 or LT R2 to AutoCAD 2000 or higher?

A - answer If automatic conversion (open) fails, use the WNEWCP.EXE (or ModifyDWGcp.exe) utility or run Dbtrans.arx in AutoCAD 2000 (or 2000i/2002).

Codepage conversion is done automatically and depends on the DWGCODEPAGE variable setting in the old DWG file. If this setting is missing (or is wrong), the standalone WNEWCP utility can fix it directly in the DWG file. Then you can open (and convert) such file drawing smoothly in AutoCAD 2000 or higher.

WNEWCP and ModifyDWGcp are free and can be downloaded from Download.
