How to invoke a command with variable number of inputs from AutoLISP?

A - answer You can use the CMDACTIVE variable to find whether the command is still running - eg:

(defun c:LLINE ()
(command "_LINE")
(while (> (getvar "CMDACTIVE") 0)
 (prompt "(still alive) ")
 (command pause)
