Q - question

Quick local opening of F3D files in Fusion 360.

A - answer Despite that the CAD/CAM software Autodesk Fusion 360 is being labeled as a "cloud" app and that it uses cloud features for some of its functions, it is in fact a standard Windows or Mac application and a vast majority of its functions works fine even without cloud, also in offline mode.

If you are working with Fusion 360 design files (i.e. .F3D and .F3Z) locally, without a shared team hub in the cloud, you may find a simple add-on useful for quickly opening 3D files from a local folder. The freeware app "Open from My Computer" adds an icon for opening local files into its quick-access panel.

Download the app from Download and unzip the contents of its ZIP archive to a subfolder in C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Autodesk Fusion 360\API\AddIns\. This will load it automatically in every Fusion 360 session. Then just click the icon to select a loaded design file.

This app is a part of the Christmas giveaway of 2022.
