Q - question

Simplifying 3D drawings by replacing repeating 3D solids with blocks.

A - answer With the freeware utility BlokRef (viz Download) you can simplify - make faster and shorter - some types of AutoCAD 3D drawings.

BlockRef searches the drawing for any repeating (geometrically similar) simple 3D solids and replaces them with blocks - i.e. creates a block for each solid shape and then replaces the individual instances of that shape with references of that block. So the complex 3D geometry (increasing DWG size) will be stored only once in that DWG file, not repeatedly. The overall drawing geometry will not change.

The sample drawing Kvadry.DWG is shortened from 758MB to 160MB using this tool.

The application doesn't support combined 3D solids (3DSolid) created e.g. using boolean operations, only boxes, cylinders and other primitives.
