Two years ago today I started working for Autodesk – no kidding! Time flies when you’re having fun. And speaking of fun…did you ever realize how much fun AutoCAD LT can be? Really! Here’s a compilation of my favorite tricks, some of which are mine and some of which I borrowed from Donnie Gladfelter (The CAD Geek), Shaan Hurley (Between the Lines), and regular blog reader Murray Clack: (Before you actually USE any of these, please evaluate your target’s mood and general sense of humor! I don’t want any of you getting in trouble!) Take a screen capture of AutoCAD LT, set it as the desktop background, and set the taskbar to auto-hide. Have some fun with the selection method settings. Change ZOOMFACTOR and/or ZOOMWHEEL. Set NOMUTT to 1 (This turns off text in the command window) If you usually use zero-height text styles, change the height to something tiny -- like 0.00001. (“But the text style height *says* '0.00'…") Change color of cursor to match the drawing screen background color Set SNAP to a high value and turn it on Draw a line with a zero length at far away from the rest of the drawing (to have fun with “zoom extents”) Set LIMITS to a really small number (0,0 to 1,1) and turn them on (then you can’t draw outside the limits) Set "MTJIGSTRING" or "MODEMACRO" to something funny (“Go Yankees” for Red Sox fans and vice versa…) If you’re using AutoCAD, you can use the “alert” function to pop up random boxes for certain commands. Say, redefine the line command to pop up an alert with the message “You have used up all available lines. Please use another drawing method.” And of course, you don’t have to limit yourself to AutoCAD LT for computer pranks. There was the time I changed my boss’s keyboard to Dvorak…then had to frantically look up the layout when his password-protected screen saver kicked in! (Oops. Good thing he had a sense of humor.) But I think my favorite has to be the one I heard about last week from Brian Benton of CAD-a-blog. Let’s just say it involves plugging the USB part of a wireless mouse into the back of an unsuspecting colleague’s desktop computers, keeping the mouse part yourself…and perfecting your “Who, me?” look in response to the cry of “What did you do to my computer??” Your turn now – share your favorite pranks in the comments.Go to the original post...
