I have a question regarding formatting a new drawing in auto cad 07. I would like to draw out the drawing in millimeters. Could someone give me the steps to set-up my page.thanks

Drawing units are "unitless" - so just draw in millimeters (1:1) using the ACADISO.DWT template. You will need the real-world units (scale) only for plotting and dimensioning.

Not quite sure what you mean. Initially when I open the program do I need to assign some where that I want to draw in millimeters? Currently when I draw for example a line a dimension it, it measures in inches, how do I measure in millimeters?Thanks

Okay what Vladmir means is that when you draw in Model space, you are drawing 1, 10, 100 1000 units.  When you switch to Layout Space(aka Paper space) you can then scale this appropriately..I think the issue you may have is with your Dimension Style..  Try selecting/checking : Dimension --> Style --> Primary Units, these should be decimal (i.e. millimetres at 1:1).  You then need to zoom in to your viewport and ensure that the scale is 1:1..  If you really want your drawing to come out in millimetres that is..HTH

Primary Units,should be decimal (as rossassociates mentioned). Type 'units' in the command line and chose decimal, it changes the primary units in the current drawing.If you use other Cad programs, is also good to synchronize them. Under the insertion scale chose the same units you use in the other program.

In my experience I used Drawing Units only for LOT PLOTTING with coordinates; Length and angles. I did not change anything in model space because as far as i know its a UNIVERSAL WORKSPACE.

Note: I used Drawings Units only for PRECISION 0.00, in
Angle Type its SURVEYOR'S UNIT and other precision for direction in Lot plotting.

What I did:
1. If i use a drawing scale of Meter : I simply enter 1 instead of 1000. any number that is.
2. If i use a drawing scale of Millimeter: I simply enter 1000 (Thousand) instead of 1. any number that is.

This is Simple trick I do for production but please note there is a difference when Plotting in Paper Space "what I'm talking about is the commands used for this method".

In a model space there is No unit used you will simply enter the coordinates of 1 or 1000(Thousand), or a number that is, i only used Precision: 0.00 in Drawings Units.

If you plot in a Paper Space its all the same either Meter or Millimeter it can have the same scale results.

I have been using simple methods for production: Meter or Millimeters can come up with the same scale in Paper Space, even a drawing Scale of 1:5000 M, again it can have the same result plotting in Paper Space, there is just a difference in commands for Meter and Millimeter.
