Display full version of the post: AutoCAD 2012 - Creating new layers - colour

Hi guys..

I have recently upgraded to AutoCAD 2012 & have noticed a couple of little bugs in it.. Most of which i have found work-arounds, but there is one in particular that has been annoying me..

When I create a new layer in the layer manager & I give it a line weight & a pen colour, the colour does not seem to stay with that layer until I save the drawing...
ie.. I create a new layer, say it comes up with the colour set to white, I select & change the colour to red for instance, & set that layer to the current layer.. Now, when I go out of the layer manager & draw a line on the page it will be created on the correct layer, but it will still show as white. If i click on it the oproperties show that the colour is set to by layer, but the layer shows it as white. If i go back into the layer manager, that layer will show that its colour is set to red...
I have found that if I save the drawing & go back into the layer manager, the colour for that layer will have changed back to white. I am then able to change the colour to what ever I want & it will work..

Has anyone found a solution to this issue, as I do not want to have to save after I create every layer before I then go back & allocate the colours to all the new layers...

Any help would be appreciated..
Cheers...

I have experienced the same problem and at first thought it might be graphics card related.  Now, after reading your post, I am beginning to have my doubts.  Maybe it is a true AutoCAD 2012 bug.

I am also experiencing this issue.  I have a thread going in the AutoDesk discussion form also, but no luck.  Very frustrating little bug.

Greetings,

I
would have responded to this sooner but I was working through some Log in
issues.

I
have been running AutoCAD 2012 since the update from 2011. I haven’t found any
issues as you describe nor have any of my users.

I made
the new layer in the model area as well as in the layout through the viewport.
Changed the color and also made it current.

Everything
I did to the layer in the model, showed up as a change in the layout – viewport
side that included:  Status, Color and
also linetype. It was all automatic so I didn’t need to change anything on the
VP side.

You
said you had some work-arounds one of which I’m sure included changing the VP
colors, ltypes etc. in the viewport itself.

I
use a lot of viewports in my layouts that have various colors and linetypes
assigned.

Sure
makes my life easier. I guess I am one of the lucky ones not to have this
problem

Perhaps
re-installing the software would help. I cringe when other people suggest this
knowing the changes I have made.

Good
luck!

I
will keep an eye on this thread.

Mike

Before uninstalling / reinstalling I would first recommend trying the REPAIR option.  Did not work in my case and judging from what others have written about the uninstall/reinstall process I'm not interested in going down that road unless I absolutely have to.Maybe it's a graphics card issue?
