Display full version of the post: B/W inverted importing DWG from ASketch7 to ACAD14

For a more stable dimensioning I exported a drawing from AutoSketch-7 to a .DWG to be finished in AutoCAD 14.Colors are ok except for black and white. Black and white are inverted, so in ACAD the background is black now. Printing that or passing that to a technician makes no sense. It makes no difference wether I check or uncheck in:ASketch > File > SaveAs > AutoCAD/R14...(DWG) > Options > Black as AutoCAD-"White"(translated from the German navigation path). Will I have to stay in ASketch?Any Idea is welcome.Thomas

Can't you just change the color of the background from black to white in AutoCAD?Are you using AutoCAD Release 14 or AutoCAD 2014?  Just curious as Release 14 came out in February, 1997.  That's a 17 year difference.  A few things have changed.

Hello tomte, if it's only the color of your screen you can change it in :
OPTIONS , DISPLAY , COLOR ......
You will have to set your AutoCAD separately on your model space and paper space to set each color , and more with the color options offered.
You can also set green, yellow etc...

I am really using R14.Last night I found the  solution:First in German (English below):ACAD-R14 > Voreinstellungen > Anzeige > AutoCAD-FensterFormat > Farben =>"AutoCAD-BildschirmFarben"> FensterElement (drop down list):GrafikFensterHintergrund: white !!GrafikTextHintergrund: lightgreyGrafikTextFarbe: blackTextFensterHintergrund: lightgreyTextFarbeImTextFenster: blackFadenkreuz (XOR):blackIn Englisch it might be something like:ACAD-R14 > Prefernces> Display> AutoCAD-ScreenFormat > Colors =>"AutoCAD-ScreenColors"> ScreenElement (drop down list):GrafikWindowBackground: white !!GrafikTextBackground: lightgreyGrafikTextColor: blackTextWindowBackground: lightgreyTextColorInTextWindow: blackFadenkreuz (XOR):black

So you were able to fix the problem?  Ja! or Nein!?What are the specifications of the computer you are running r14 on?Is all of your work going to be done in 2D?

YES - I just cant find a "Solved"-button
What are the specifications of the computer you are running r14 on?
Win XP because Win 7 64bit cant run R14
Is all of your work going to be done in 2D?
Probabely yes. Many thanks to all helpers!Thomas

There is no "Solved" button.I suggest you consider upgrading your CAD program and because I'm figuring you don't have the money to buy the latest version of full AutoCAD or even AutoCAD LT I'm going to mention a program by Dassault Systemes called Draftsight.  It is a 2D AutoCAD-clone that is FREE!  There is a 32-bit and a 64-bit version too.  You can also download a free Getting Started guide as well.http://www.3ds.com/products-services/draftsight/overview/

Hi John Connor, thank you for the hints!Does Draftsight directly support line-width? (Not indirectly via plotter pen colors in R14)And Layers? And dimensioning? Can .dwg or .skf files be imported to Draftsight? Then I would like to try it.Thank you in advance,Thomas

Draftsight is an AutoCAD clone so of course it can open DWG and DXF files at least any that are saved in 2010 file format or earlier.  I don't know if it can import SKF files I'd have to check.  My guess would be "no".Yes, it has layers, and dimensioning and polylines can be given a width.  Like I said, it's an AutoCAD clone.  It is most closely associated with AutoCAD LT thus the reason it is marketed as being a 2D CAD program.OK, I checked.  Draftsight can only import SAT files.

It isn't nice to hijack another forum member's thread to ask an unrelated question.Maybe you downloaded the wrong service pack.

Hello er6n ( kawasaki ? ), here is how to post a new topic.

Thank you, John Connor, Draftsight really is a great 2D tool - except one basic thing that drives me crazy: The Line Width from the layer has no effect. Same for an explicite Line Width given to a line - it has no effect.Because setting the color to the layer and then getting the line color from the attached layer works perfectly I do not think making a systematic mistake. In another forum I found a  Draftsight thread concerning Line Width and Line Stile, but finally discussing Line Stile only, so I am still lost. Is it fair / welcome me to discuss this in this forum too? Please let me know if not.Thomas

Discuss anything CAD related you want.Yes, lineweight DOES have an affect IF you turn it ON.Format > Lineweight >check off "Display weight in graphics area".  Re: other forum and Draftsight question. Anyone who has used Draftsight for more than a day should have been able to answer the question.Remember that just like AutoCAD there is a built-in Help file.  Make use of it.

Great!
Yes, lineweight DOES have an affect IF you turn it ON.Format > Lineweight >check off "Display weight in graphics area".
Googling "Display weight in graphics area" I learned that I had to enter
"LINEWEIGHT" in the command line to be brought to the dialog "Drafting
Styles". This Dialog directly showed me the Option "Display weight in
graphics area". I just needed to check the box and found myself in a new
world with line width defined via layers.
Remember that just like AutoCAD there is a built-in Help file.  Make use of it.
Hmmm, honestly, I had searched in Google and read the built-in Help all the day. But because I searched for "Line Width" but DraftSight calls it "Line Weight" I could not find anything. Thanks again, John Connor!ThomasPS: One sentence that popped up in Google: "This tip should be displayed when the application starts." Being a newbie I agree.
