Hey fellas! I'm new here, but I had a really quick question. It may seem rather trivial, but I'm wondering if it is better to make my own library of symbols and use the design center to put blocks into my drawings or is it better to just reference other drawings using xref. The person before me who did the drawings I'm modifying used xref, but I'm wondering if that's really the way to go. I've heard that you can save space with xref, but what do most people do? Or does it depend on what you're doing?

Thanks in advance!

The person before you would xref in symbols?  That's a first (for me anyway).  I'm not sure I really see the need to do that.  I've done civil drawing with hundreds of symbols but I cannot imagine them all being an xref.

Yeah, she made a dwg of each symbol (they're are only about 10 or so symbols) and referenced them into the main drawing. These are natural gas pipeline schematics btw so there aren't that many symbols, but I have to use the same symbol hundreds of times in the same drawing.

Personally I think that is ludicrous.  Symbols really shouldn't be changing so much that it necessitates insert them as an xref and they certainly don't take up much space.  Blocks....well, depending on their complexity, I suppose I could see how xreffing them in might be of some value.
