Can attributes only be attached to blocks?

Yes, although you can have attdefs as standalone objects (makes little sense - only to use the DWG as an external block).

Yeah, that does make sense.  I should have read a little more before I posted my question.  I have another question though, maybe you can help me. I'm working on this map of my campus and it contains different areas like turf, concrete, asphalt, and so on.  So what I want to do is; if someone was viewing the file and they clicked on a particle area like turf, then an attachment or something would pop up and information like the area, perimeter, etc. would be displayed. Is this possible?  I think I've seen this done on autocad, but it could also have been GIS or something else.

You can try to attach Hyperlink information for such pop-up information, but GIS applications give much more options and flexibility for this. I would recommend AutoCAD Map and Autodesk MapGuide.

Thank you, I will take a look at that, but my school is on a very small budget.  Is there something I can do that allows me to display information (without me entering the data manually) in AutoCAD?

Hi,
What about 'List' command?

Try the [CMD]HYPERLINK[/CMD] command or dynamic [CMD]FIELD[/CMD].
