Hi,

I've just completed a Degree in Civil Engineering and I was considering a role as an autoCAD Technician.

Is this a good choice? Whats the average salary for someone working with CAD in the construction industry?

Any Thoughts would be great!

Many Thanks

Just depends on the area your in for pay scale... Do you have a 2 year degree (Civil Engineering Technology) or do you have a 4 year degree? That makes a difference... I am Civil Technician/ Designer... (do the work of the engineer, but I do not interact with clients much and when I am done with drawings, all calculations needed I handed them over for review and engineer signatures.  Technician pay salaries range from 30,000 a year to 60,000 a year.   Engineers or E.I.T. makes 50,000 and above to about 85,000 a year.... Like I said this is all ranges I have seen. You would need to check locally or in the area you might work in.....

You will be competing with CAD operators from the Far East, India and Eastern Europe who are prepared to work for £3 per hour. They are convincing the greedy Western employers to outsource the CAD work cheaply. It is best to sell yourself on expertise: technical, design, etc.
