I am running ACAD 2007 on a Windows Vista Ultimate machine. When I create a new layer and attempt to change the color of the layer, it does not allow me to make the change. What gives... does anyone else have any experience with this?

I've had this happen. I found if you create the layer then come out of the dialog box into the drawing. Then go back in to the layer and change the colour, it should let you now.

hope this works.

You know how after you select the color, it shows up in the little box between Lock and Linetype under the color heading? Well, the new color I select never shows up there even if I hit Apply.

My guess would be that you have to define the line either 'by layer' or 'by block'. if you have the layer at say, blue, you have to have the line color defined 'by layer'. even then, if you work in viewports, you might have to go back into your layer properties manager and check your viewport settings.

I will make sure those are my settings once I reinstall ACAD 2007. What is happening now is that when I click on the layers button, ACAD develops a fatal error and crashes. So I will uninstall ACAD, reinstall it (uugghhhh) and let you know what happens. Thanks for your advice so far.
