How do i delete layers in autocad 2009 when the sign comes up that the layers are being used when they are clearly not. How can i find out what is holding onto my layer & stopping it from going?

remember that if there are still objects drawn in that specific layer you want to delete, layer cannot be deleted. turn off all other layers, except the layers you want to delete, from then, you can see all objects that were left, erase them all, then you can delete the layer.

hope it works

I use quick select to select everything on the layer i want to delete. It selects nothing because there is nothing on the layer i want to delete. It's not the current layer, not the 0 layer & it's not used by any xref. how do i delete it?

Just type PURGE, a window will appear.
At the bottom of the window there are options,
of which click on PURGE ALL. This will delete all the unwanted layers
that dont have any objects on it.

Hope this solves your problem.

Try command LAYDEL - it will solve your problem.

well,
if the layers is used in block, you will not be able to isolate it. Thereofre check your blocks before using laydel command.
