have drawn a large drawing with text in it, but when I want to scale the drawing down all the dimensions get jumbled and are way too big for drawing.  I know there is a simple fix but have yet to determine what it is..

If you're not using annotative dims, adjust the overall scale to match uour veiw port scale
dimension style manager/modify/fit/change the overall scale

Is everything including your dimensions in model space? Are you even using a paper space layout in this drawing?

This is exactly what annotative scaling is all about.  You'll need to study a bit and create some annotative text, dimension, and possibly some multi leader styles.  Then you'll be able to annotate your drawing with dimensions and text and not worry about the scales in layout viewports.Annotative objects are built to automatically adjust for scale changes and maintain a constant paper space height. It's worth your time to figure out how it all works.Dave
