Let me guess. You have a drawing that is causing you some problems. You may or may not be getting "out of memory" errors. The drawing may be sluggish, cause an error or lock up AutoCAD.You tried purging it but it did not fix the problem.Unfortunately I don't speak your language.Does anything I wrote above mean something to you?Can you upload the drawing so we can take a look at it?

Olá, eu estou fazendo a tradução em inglês :
I have a .dwg.
I took out a lot of details, plans, etc.
I did a PURGE and it still is big.
What did I do for that .dwg consuming a lot of memory ?

Run the command line version of the PURGE command which looks like this: -PURGE.  You must include the dash.Purge REGAPPS first.Run the command a second time.Purge using the ALL option.Run the AUDIT command.  Tell AutoCAD to fix any errors it might find.Save the drawing.Repeat the process one more time.  Don't forget to use -PURGE.After the second save has the file size decreased?  Yes or no?Did you use any objects (linetypes, text, etc.) from a Microstation drawing in your drawing?  Yes or no?

Follow the directions I gave previously.  If that does not work then here are two more options.1) DXFOUT the drawing.  Open a new drawing and use DXFIN to bring the file back into AutoCAD as a drawing.  Save it under a new name.  Is the file size smaller?  Yes or no?2) WBlock out all the objects you can see.  Open a new drawing and use the INSERT command to bring the block into your drawing.  Save the drawing.  Is the file size smaller?  Yes or no?

John, We thank you all for that millions of helps that you give.
CELSO SOUSA doesn't speak english and is only 12 years younger than miketyson.
The actions that you give for him to do are difficult is he doesn't knows AutoCAD very well.
I too don't know everything like you do.
Again, thanks for all your usefull informations and helps.philippe JOSEPH2014-03-07 08:08:31

The OP's age has nothing to do with the problem.Yes, language, for me, is a barrier.Users should follow the steps I outlined and/or answer the questions that have been asked if they hope to solve their problem.  It's as simple as that.

Re: files that are large in size but contain few actual objects.Yesterday I helped someone from the U.K. with a similar problem.  Fortunately his drawing was only 3.5MB so he could email it to me.  By the time I finished with it I had gotten the file size down to 163KB.  Yes, you read that right.  The file size DROPPED from 3.5MB to 163KB.Now this was a very unique file because try as I might I could not initially find anything wrong with it.  I ran Overkill, -Purge (twice) and Audit.  No problems of any kind were detected.  I checked for Microstation linetypes and/or text styles.  There weren't any.So, I used the old DXFOUT/DXFIN method.  Of course everyone knows when you DXFOUT a drawing the file size just rockets out of sight.  Now I had a DXF file of almost 23MB.  Yes, the file size increased almost 6 times!Once I brought the dxf file in I ran the -Purge command again.  This command ran for so long that I thought AutoCAD had locked up but when it finally finished I was informed that almost 9700 unreferenced block definitions had been deleted.  9700!I saved the file.  It's size dropped to 1.57MB.  I repeated the process a second time.  AutoCAD deleted 1 unreferenced block definition file.  I saved the drawing.  The file size was now 163KB.As it turned out the original drawing came from an architect using an AutoCAD vertical product and the blocks were actually anonymous groups which I was able to recognize by looking at the unreferenced definitions list compiled by AutoCAD during the purging process.  All 9700 files started with *A followed by several numbers. Now that's what I call good detective work.  It's also the kind of process one might have to go through to clean up a file.  As a last resort I could have just WBlocked everything out and inserted it into a new drawing but then I would not have known what caused the problem.Case closed.
