Can we get some details? What type of elevator? Will it be used in a residential, medical or commercial building? How many floors will the elevator have to access? What is the height of the building? Will there be more than one elevator? Is the elevator on the exterior or interior of the building? What kind of capacity will be required? Are you going to draw this in 2D or 3D? You might want to consider drawing it in 3D (solid model) then you can extract the necessary views from the model. But I suppose that would depend on whether or not you have experience in 3D modeling with AutoCAD.

Elevator manufacturers' websites often have .dwg files available, and many will even generate a "custom" drawing based on your answers to questions about overall travel, capacity, etc. Mostly I've seen them be of the Architectural elements, but you could use such a thing as a base to draw Mechanical elements into.
