On Friday December 17th, 2010 over one hundred Autodesk employees in San Francisco went and seen the opening of the new TRON: Legacy movie in beautiful IMAX 3D Metreon theater. Both Autodesk with AutoCAD and the original TRON sprang upon the world back in 1982. Twenty Eight years later Autodesk, AutoCAD, and TRON are still here. In 2010 TRON and Autodesk share common technology and visualization ties. TRON was really ahead of its time demonstrating some special fx in the early day. Did you know they had to paint the glow lines on costumes frame by frame manually in 1982? TRON also showed futuristic technology such as scanning physical objects to a 3D digital model back in 1982, now we can easily accomplish that using the latest in laser scanners or photos in the case of PhotoFly Photo Scene Editor from Autodesk Labs free download currently. Scott Sheppard and I also made a brief cameo appearance on the big IMAX screen with a FARO laser scanning arm. A few more 1982 events from history via Wikipedia: Seattle is officially dubbed the Emerald City after a contest is held to choose a new city slogan. The car brand Toyota Camry is introduced. The Commodore 64 PC is released (over 20 million will be sold by 1994). The TRON:Legacy movie was great especially with all my Autodesk colleagues. It was totally worth a vacation day and covering my own travel to attend. A huge thanks to Autodesk PSEB group, and Autodesk Labs own VP Brian Mathews (ultimate TRON fan) for making this fun event a reality. Cheers Shaan (on vacation)
