Display full version of the post: Extra line types.. Cannot delete?

We have had an issue with extra line types showing up in our drawings that we cannot remove. Even though none of the line types are being used, we are unable to delete them from the drawing. We think that the source of the line types is a drawing from a Civil consultant. Help!   It's making what is typically a 300KB room block turn into a 5MB room block which is exponential in a base floor plan.

What have you tried so far to delete them?  Purge? This is a block you got from the consultant that contains the linetypes? How many different linetypes were included that you are not using?I'm not understanding how linetypes would balloon a drawing by a factor of 16X.

Can't be much of a problem since you did not respond to any of my questions.

If you can't find the linetype with a simple qselect search then most likely it is buried in a block... and quite likely within a nested block.  Your only real option is to start exploding blocks and hunting.  There really is no easy way to find these.Dave.

Ha! John, I always appreciate your feedback, but I got a little busy to respond as quick as you'd like:Yes, we've run Audit/Purge commands in each guest room block, base plans, etc.Yes, quite possibly.. we believe it came from a Civil engineer's site plan.At least 100 different line types exist that we are not using.

Dave, you words ring true, and, unfortunately, parallel what I like to call "the last resort".. lol, thanks for the feedback. The hunt BEGINS!

You could try to force purge the linetypes using the shareware version of manusoft's SuperPurge program.  Not entirely sure if it would work so try at your own risk.I don't see how even 100 linetypes would make a drawing file size balloon that much.  Something else must be going on.John Connor2012-10-11 18:11:55

JC, unfortunately, SuperPurge didn't put a dent in it. We're now seeing new text styles flooding into the drawing files. Would you be receptive to my emailing you one of the smaller files to glance at? It's 5MB hotel room block, and it's supposed to be maybe no more than 200KB. I agree: SOMETHING is going on. And it's very recent, so.. In other news... If I had the link handy, I would post the T2 clip where the T-1000 holds up the picture & says the famous: "Have you seen this boy?" Anywho, I digress..long day....

I would be willing to look at a representative drawing file.  We just have to make some arrangements for getting to me.  You are in the U.S. I see.  What state?  I'm in Connecticut.

Hartford, Connecticut here.  Same time zone then. What time should we meet up?  I'll post by email address temporarily in my profile where you could see it then when the time expires I would delete it.

We can close this one out as solved. If posts can be closed out.... Thanks, JC! Looks like the AutoCAD 2013 likes to hold onto linetypes in some capacity which inflated certain drawing files. After running the DXFOUT command, a room block that was blown up to 5MB was deflated to 80KB. If the DXFOUT does not work, try DXFIN, adversely. On the other hand, we have a guy in the office still using AutoCAD 2008 & 2000i. He made a W-BLOCK while inside of an inflated file that DXFOUT/IN was ineffective against and had the same effect as DXFOUT/IN! Unfortunately, my AutoCAD 2013's W-BLOCK efforts were in vain...nothing but 2MB fell off of a 17MB file Site Details sheet that should normally be in the 2MB to 4MB range, total. Know that the Acad13 efforts were done before & after the Service Pack 1.1 was downloaded/installed/rebooted. Thank goodness for old technology!

Dear friends,
I also facing this problem. I am facing this problem for a bunch of drawings.
So I am looking for a batch edit option. If any one have any .exe file to clean up all the unwanted line types from the drawing please advise me.

Thanks
and
Regards,
Joy Jacob

Hi, Joy. I know how you feel. The DXFOUT process is very effective and moderately quick, but en masse? Hmm, I wouldn't mind getting my hands on that little gem for sure!

Hi Amar,

Thanks for your quick response. Ya. DXFOUT I found seems to be okay.
But still as I mentioned this bug affected my almost thousands of drawings so in that case I am looking for some batch editing exe file. So that it can be cleaned by one stretch.

Thanks,
Joy Jacob

Like I said in the other thread, you'll have to use a script to batch process the files.

Has this been resolved?I have some insight on this topic, but I want to know if any other methods have been developed.
