I am in need of a way to convert a Solidworks output file to Autocad FormatDoes anyone have any experience with this task? It appears the only way to complete this is using an ASCI (.sat) format.

Yes you can and I have some experience in the convertion from SLD to DWG and from DWG to SLD.

From SLDDRW 2D to DWG 2D it's just a "save as" XXXXXX.dwg ( you choose the DWG file type in a list ).

From SLDPRT and SLDASM 3D to DWG 3D you should do a "save as" XXXXXX.sat with the option release 7.0 ( recommended ) then in AutoCAD you have to "import" the XXXXX.sat in a new file.

It is possible to reuse a DWG file to create a "sketch" in SLD :
In SLD, file, open ( choose XXX.dwg in a list ), choose the option create a new SLDRW + import in a new part.

From DWG 3D to SLD it's also possible directly by an "open" XXXXXX.dwg ( you have to choose XXXXXX.dwg ) in a list.
For a good transfer, save your file to be transfered and :
Explode the blocks ( but not the volumes )
Erase the useless lines ( no simple lines or texts will be transfered ).
I recommend to rotate the objects by 90° two times ( as for more information about this ) so that in SLD the objects will be uptight like in your DWG file.
Save your file as a SLDPRT file so that you don't carry "SLD" XREF files.
Then and only then you can erase all the SLD files automaticaly created by SLD.
If you want to transfer texts I have done a DWG file "ABCD.dwg" of 3D texts and numbers for them to be transeferd to SLD.
Ask for more.......

Comming back on my reply of 14 nov. 2011 I would add that when you do the tranfer from SLDDRW to AutoCAD 2D it's better to do it trought a "tranfer file" that will transform automaticaly the white lines, dimensions etc... to YOUR personnal AutoCAD layers with YOUR colors, line type, line scale etc...
