Is there a way to draw on one viewport  without the drawing appearing on the other viewport simultaneously.?   I  tried  by dividing the screen   with 2 viewports from the view pulldown menu . But whenever I draw on the active viewport, the drawing appears on the other viewport as well.
I have only been successful in panning the parallel drawing(unwanted) out of the  other viewportJoferna2011-01-15 03:48:18

Yes, turn the layer off in the other viewport.

Thanks Rob - But I have a 2008 version - is there another way to do this?
I understand it is easy to do in 2011 version  through the layer manager

No, in model space viewports you cannot control layers by viewport; draw something in one and it shows in all.

You can control layers by viewport, for vieweports in paper space (on layout tabs).

My apologies for not being clear enough before. In order for you to
accomplish what you want, all you need to do is Freeze the Layer in the
current view port. To do so is very common and extremely simple.

1. Set the view port that you want to 'active'.

2. Using the Layers Toolbox, Freeze the layers that you don't want in the active viewport (3RD Icon from the Left).3. See the results:This IS what you inquired about, correct? Or did I misread your question?

Oh, and those are Paperspace Viewports, not Modelspace.
