even though after doing complete uninstalltion of AutoCAD 2008 it is showing that the Autocad 2008 is already installed.
what could be reason

Uninstall has probably failed (insufficient rights, Registry cleaner...) - you can try the "clean uninstall" procedures: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/item?siteID=123112&id=2887771&linkID=9240617
