The new iPad known as the iPad (3rd generation) is now available for those that pre-ordered or waited in some sort of a line. So I found myself in a line at a Walmart at midnight and got my iPad 3rd gen tablet in the 32 Gb Wifi flavor. I don’t like waiting in lines for things especially gadgets, but this was worth it and actually a fun experience making new friends in the line and then the creepy guy wearing a poor Halo Master Chief costume around the store. It was almost like a support group for iPad users “My name is Shaan and I am an iPad’aholic.” Some photos from the experience. I remember the first iPad and publicly mocking it, until I had received one for work and the Autodesk AutoCAD WS and Sketchbook Mobile apps. After only a few days I was seriously hooked like a junkie on the streets looking for my fix especially after finding the app Flipboard. I found the iPad tablet worked in places that were not ideal for using a small phone screen or a large laptop such as when on the couch, in bed, waiting for or on a flight, while camping, while feeding my secret unicorn herd, trying to drain the internet of all its information, and at events where I need email, photos, and social media but don’t want to lug my heavy laptop around. The new post PC tablet is an amazing upgrade from my ancient iPad 1 version. The main reason for me getting the latest hardware upgrade was not only for the deep pools of squealing caffeinated pixels in the new retina based display and the improved camera but the improved hardware performance. For someone upgrading from the iPad 2 it might not be a big jump other than the new speedy 4G LTE option beefy hardware and nice retina screen, but for an iPad 1 owner this is a sweet upgrade and for those without a tablet or one of those “other” tablets’ - they just don’t know what you are missing. For many people using just email browsing the web or watching videos and reading books might just need a tablet rather than a laptop pc. Am I am fanboy - guilty as charged. I am always chasing the best and latest technologies from any vendor not just Apple. When the next tablet, phone, or gadget comes out that fills a real need in my gadget and information overload life I will be a fanboy of that product. So while a Tablet does not replace my need for beefy powerful workstation class laptop, it fills a key space in my gadget, social media, and information overloaded life perfectly. Cheers, Shaan
