i've been a cad technician for 5 years now and have been using a company PC for this. I am now looking to branch off and work freelance.

The problem is, my knowledge is very basic when it comes to the internals of computers.

Can you lot give me some suggestions? It needs to be a laptop to run autocad 2010, i will be using it for various drawing including very detailed 3d perspectives so needs to be very fast thinking and good graphics card etc etc!

obviously the cheaper the better but all suggestions welcome.

Obviously, cheap isn't the way to select a laptop PC.

I would recommend Lenovo's Thinkpad laptops, I've owned four of them.
All were purchased used.

My current laptop, runs beautifully, is a T-60 Thinkpad 14" screen for portability. Has all the bells 'n whistles. Still has a half a year on the warranty.

Many are available on eBay, most in the $300.00 USD range.
Most come with MS Office and more.

I might also add, Lenovo's service is excellent and fast too.

I haven't had this experience with other laptop computers I purchased from other manufacturers.

A dual screen laptop, WOW!
If money isn't a BIG issue, you might like this Thinkpad from Lenovo.Tankman2009-12-31 17:33:59

I agree with them. I'm a Lenovo user myself and so far my laptop doesn't give me problems. It works quite well and I cannot complain anything about it.
