I'm looking for a good utility for making linetypes with text in them...seems I'm always showing different lettering...so it would have to be flexible for 1-6 letters, for example and dashed/continuous lines.... I think I saw something like this about 10 years ago....I'm using ACAD2010.  THANKS FOR THE HELP!  Did not know that the Express Tool bar in ACAD has a utility- draw the linetype, then define it with makelinetype, then it's there....couldn't be better - then put the linetype in your template.  dwt.

It is better to use some utilities like as LTYfly.if you want to create your own line type. you can open acad.lin with note pad and find some example line type "e.g GAS_LINE".So, you can study line type definition format .Create new line types and save those file as your own line type file.you can put this file in auto load procedure in (acadxxx.lsp).
