I'm using AutoCad 2000 and just had to reload the program.  Previously, I set the path to be used when looking for AutoCad files, i.e. "c:.../autocad drawings". However, I can not remember how I did this.  What "tool" within AutoCad along the user the change to path for opening files? Thanks for any help.Joe

You can change the path via Tools > Options > Files.

Thanks very much for your reply.  That's what I thought Tools > Options > Files. But placing the path in "Support Files Search Path" doesn't seem to be working.  I placed the path as the "top level" path and as the "bottom level" path.  Neither seems to get me to the folder where my AutoCad drawings are stored.  Do you have any thoughts on what I might be doing incorrectly?Joe

You changed/added the path to the folder.  OK.  Then what did you do?  Did you shutdown and restart AutoCAD to make the change take affect?

Thanks for your reply.  After adding the path, I selected "apply" -returned to AutoCad - shut down AutoCad - rebooted - started AutoCad - checked for the path in options and then tried to open a file.  The "Open" command opensthe "Acad2000 Folder not "AutoCadDrawings".  I just repeated all of the above steps. I used "properties" to copy and paste the path - just ot make sure I didn't mis-type something. For the recordc, the path is " C:\Documents and Settings\Joe Robinson\My Documents\Joe's Files\AutoCad Drawings". So what do you think?  What could I be doing wrong?

First. I don't know why you just don't put your drawing folder under the root directory.   Second.  Look at this from AutoDesk:

"For the Start In folder to be recognized as the default location when working with files, set the REMEMBERFOLDERS system variable to 0 (off).

The REMEMBERFOLDERS system variable controls the default path
for the Look In or Save In option in standard file selection dialog
boxes. A setting of 0 restores legacy behavior, using the Start In path.
With a setting of 1, the last used path in each file selection dialog
box is remembered across all drawing sessions."

John:
To answer your question about using the root folder, I decided to use a folder in my directory to prevent and corruption of the root directory.  Just trying to be carefull. Obviously, I’m not a real knowledgeable AutoCAD user – particularly when using system variables.  I searched AutoCad help for a system variable called “Rememberfolder” but could not find any mention of a variable by that name.  After some effort, I found a list of system variables for AutoCad 2000 – no “Rememberfolders”.  With resepct, are you sure there is a system variable in AutoCad 2000 called "Remberfolders"
What really bothers me is this worked last week before my computer got infected and I had to reinstall AutoCad.  Now, I can’t get the same results.
If you have any further thoughts on the subject I would certainly appreciate a reply.  Otherwise, I sincerely thank you for your time and effort.
