I'm new to the forums here and thought I would give you a little history about our company before I ask my question. In the last 3 years our company has grown tremendously. We secured a contract with the military and have added alot more machinery to our manufacturing capacity. As of late due to the world economic crisis we have slowed down quite a bit but have survived thus far. Our main function is manufacturing and supplying our distributors with cam follower bearings. We offer a standard line as well as a custom per spec product. Recently the owner of the company has decided to upgrade the company website and make 3d models our product available on line for our customers to download for they're convenience. The trick is to make all our product available in many different formats for whatever CAD application the end user requests. I have found only one company that offers this functionality, it is "Cadnes / Part Solutions". My question is there any other packages available from other companies that offer the same or similar functionality.sgwilliams2009-05-05 18:25:43

Do you want to just 3D-display the models or make them available for download?

You can use 3D DWF, VRML and many other 3D formats to interactively display 3D models on the web.

To make your models available for insertion to multiple 3D CAD packages, use a common CAD format - either a general data exchange format like STEP or a widely used CAD format - preferably DWG or DXF. Another approach is to develop plugins for multiple CAD applications and then publish your own format (or script) which will "generate" the models in the individual software applications.

Thanks, I'm aware of all that information. Our company is looking for a on the fly download solution that will generate models in the customers native format vs a generic format. This makes a difference between getting the sale and not getting the sale. We found a few other companies, Parts Solutions, Catalog Data Solutions, Technicon(very expensive was quoted 50-100k), & 3D PartStream.net(no longer supported).

So far the decision is between Part Solutions and Catalog Data Solutions, both similar in price, funtionality and turn around...I feel the Part Solutions has the best support tho by far...I will keep you all posted and let you know wht we decided.

Thanks for your reply!
