Anyone out there succesfully loaded a mechanical symbols menu into AutoCAD 2008 or newer? What I'd like to use is the Autodesk Symbols mechlt95.mnu (or the modified version I used in Lt2000i and Lt2005) as I find it easier to insert items.

The pull-down menu in Lt2005 is far faster for me to use than the method that comes with Lt2008 ........ and I suspect, the newer versions.

I use the Symbols menu for structural steel, fasteners and weld symbols.

AutoDesk bailed on support several years back ---

I don't know anything about Acad Mechanical or how the mechanical symbols menu worked in 2005, but the symbols are just blocks that are saved in a folder somewhere on your machine, right? So couldn't you just create a new Tool Palette and put them all in there? This would allow you to drag and drop them into your drawings. Here's a tutorial: http://autodesk.blogs.com/between_the_lines/2004/09/autocad_tool_pa.htmlI have one "Master" file where I keep all of my most used blocks. I then copy and paste these blocks into a Tool Palette so I have easy access to them whenever I need them. And yes, Autodesk retires it's older programs every year, which means no more support. I believe they just retired 2007 this year.

Thanks for the reply --- I'll take a look at the tutorial.

The old Symbols menu tab allowed me to directly pick an item by size, view (top, side, end), determine the x & y scales, rotation and insertion point in one command.

To attempt the same thing using blocks has always required guessing what AutoCAD decided to call the item, what code they used for the view and then stretching it to length and rotation in additional commands.

But then ----- maybe I'm just set in my ways.
