Problem is materials wont stay on faces after applying them after saving then switching views to apply other materials to other faces of same object

John Connor

So what becomes of the materials?  Do they just disappear altogether?

Corpsman8404
03.05.2016, 17:49
Yes, they don't save

John Connor

Have you experienced this problem previously with similar such drawings (i.e. - where materials are applied to faces)?

John Connor

I guess you got it figured out.  Well then....bye.

Yes this has been experienced before could it be everytime it's saved and restarted its cause the settings were reset and prevented saving them ? Sorry I didn't get back to you right away, at work

Ah...you're back. What settings are you talking about?Think about it for a moment.  You've created a drawing and added some materials then you saved the drawing.  Later on you open the drawing and the materials have vanished?  Honestly, something about that just doesn't make any sense.

Yes I know

Yes very frustrating! So bits a 3D image in which color is added then once saved , and the lap top restarted the work done disappears

So as colors are added to walls of 3D image then saved then when laptop is started the work isn't saved

I thought you said materials were disappearing.  Now you are talking about colors?  Colors of particular materials?  I think a better explanation is in order.Since you said this has happened in similar drawings I'm guessing it is something you are doing and not necessarily something AutoCAD is doing on its own.The only real way to see to the heart of the matter would be to attach an actual drawing file to a subsequent post.  Maybe someone here can take a look at it and figure out what exactly is or isn't happening.

So picture a 3D IMAGE of a wall, color is then added to various walls in the 3D rendering of a room then saved. Then when computer laptop is restarted all those colts saved are then gone like it was never done.

Yes like they were never done.

Ran again here exactly what is being done,Basically that I am applying material to only a face on a wall object, and when I close out program and restart its not on the wall face, Im not having an issue with applying materials to layers just faces

You keep changing your story.  First it was materials applied to a 3DFace, then color now you are back to materials.Let's talk about color.  Are you using the Color Faces command found on the Home tab > Solid Editing panel?  If not please explain the procedure you are using to apply the color.

An example of a color and a material applied to one 3DFace on a solid 3D model.  New drawing created then saved.  Drawing was then closed and reopened.  Both the color on one 3DFace of the square and the material on one 3DFace of the rectangle were retained (i.e. - they never disappeared between saving and reopening the drawing).

How are you saving? Save as or just save?

John Connor
04.05.2016, 14:24
I've used both methods.  It just depends on whether I started a new drawing (Save) or made use of a pre-existing drawing where I do NOT want to overwrite the file (SAVEAS).  What visual style is being used?

Did they swith views ie sw view apply then se view apply and close then reopen?Thats the issue im having I apply the material on different faces in different views and saving each time I make a change, But when I close and save program and reopen it they arent always on all faces. some but not allCorpsman84042016-05-05 01:25:41

I can switch views until the end of time and neither the color nor the material disappears.  Perhaps you have an under-performing graphics card.

Upload one of the problematic drawings and I'll take a look at it then tell you what I see or don't see.
