i have a few snaps on but it seems to just miss the snap point. Sometimes it snaps to nothing, as in no line just black space but very near to the actual point i wanted it to snap to. I have tried various snaps but cant solve the problem.

The snaps i have on are: endpoint, midpoin, centre, node, extension, perpendicular.

Now i have drawn 2 lines that cross but it wont snap to where they intersect. I have looked at View > 3D views > right / left etc and all my lines are on one plane.

What could be causing this?

Thanks

Please confirm.  You are working in 3D not 2D right?
Do you have SNAP enabled?  I am not talking about OSnaps.

it is strange because things that i could snap to on friday i cant snap to today, ie grid lines of a building (not the CAD grid).

Though with regards to it snapping to random points near to where I want it to snap to, i think this machine has always done that.

Hope someone can help as its frustrating.

Are you zoomed in really, really close to the lines? You may need to REGEN in order to snap precisely.

i opened up the drawing fresh today and it still wouldnt snap. I tried doing regen and that disnt work either. i cant understand it as before Friday I could definately snap to these lines.

Have you checked the properties of some of these lines?  Maybe they are not at elevation "0"?

Post the drawing so we can take a look at it.John Connor2011-03-29 11:47:21

I dont think i am allowed to upload images yet as i cant see the upload symbol and i dont have a website to upload to.

Position Z is ser at "0".

I have checked the properties X, Y and Z are set to 1.0. I have tried setting it to zero but it say it can be set to "0".

not sure if this is relevant but all the lines that I cant snap to are part of a block. They have always been part of a block and I have not altered the block since the drawing was issued.

"0" in the case of "Z" is a distance off the X/Y plane and not a position.

The properties for X, Y and Z that you mention are probably the scale factors for the block you inserted and have nothing to do with the block's position.

Ive looked in CAD help for something on elevations and it all refers to 3D so im not sure what you mean by "maybe they are not at elevation 0" How do I check what elevation they are at?

Thanks

You could select an object, like a line, and check its Properties.  Or you could do a LIST on an object.

I just loaded 2010 on my new computer.  Want to email me the drawing?

Try using "flatten" command , may be the elevation of the lines is almost 0 but not exactly 0 , hope this will help you.

I have a snappy answer......maybe you're too adventurous? I like adventurous women.
