If you're like me, you're probably used to downloading software off the internet. Oh sure, there might be the occasional trip to the store, when you come home with a box with a disc and manual, but for the most part you expect programs to be available online. And why not? Downloading software is faster than even overnight shipping, and the manuals and documentation are also online, so by downloading you're skipping a lot of middlemen and saving a lot of paper & CDs.Starting this month, Autodesk will be joining the download wave by making that the default method for delivering software upgrades to most of our Subscription customers worldwide. If you still want to get a CD or DVD, log in to the Subscription Center and update your delivery profile by March 12, 2010. Customers in some countries will continue to receive physical shipments by default, but everyone has the option to download software. It looks to me like this is win-win -- you get software faster, and it's greener than shipping boxes all over the world. To paraphrase one of my favorite e-mail signatures: "No trees were killed in the delivery of this software. However, a number of electrons were horribly inconvenienced."Go to the original post...
