I have a huge mountain of old blueprints that need to be digitized not just to scanned images, but to fully working DWG files, for an upcoming facilities renovation project we are starting.  Does anyone have a suggestion on a good outsourced supplier of drawing conversion services, paper to CAD DWG?  There are some overseas outfits but I'm reluctant to send to those places, and we need the conversion to be top notch.  Redrawing these will take me forever and we need to get started on this project soon. Thanks in advance for any suggestions you have.  Thanks,

What kinds of drawings are they?  Architectural, civil, structural, other? Why not hire someone local to do the conversion from paper to CAD?  As long as you make it clear it's a one time job there are probably any number of people who would jump at the chance to get some work.  You could test a person's skills by giving them a single drawing to do and see how long it takes them to turn it around and judge the quality of their work.  If time is of the essence you could offer a "bonus" for early completion of the task.Personally I wouldn't trust sending anything overseas to China, India or Malaysia without an iron-clad guarantee and at least three solid recommendations from companies located in Canada or the United States.  Definitely ask for references if you go that route.

Did you see Holovko's recent post in this forum? Perhaps his dwg ability eclipses his language skills.

I wouldn't trust anyone who couldn't adequately articulate what they can do and what the will provide as an end product.  Besides, if you hire someone local you could actually meet face-to-face.

Thanks for the feedback.  We did consider hiring someone locally, however hiring (e.g. interviews required, etc) versus service sub-contracting, is a much more time consuming process at our organization, as we are governed by public sector rules and regulations. And that's just the work to get the person in the door, not to mention the task at hand. After reviewing quotes and references from several companies that offer drawing conversion services, we ended up going with DCM Inc. (http://dcmconvert.com/)  At $252 CDN for D-size sheet turned around in three days, it was a no brainer for us.  We just got our DWG files back and they are mint.  We are very pleased.  If anyone's ever in need of a similar service I would recommend DCM.
