Hello!I have a very odd question maby, however I have a small business in Sweeden and oneof my costumers whom is 80 years old has been running a Windows 98 machine with GenericCADD6 installed together with a very old printer. This setup has ben more or less the same since the 90ths, although he has changed printer a few times.His last printer gave up now and I am trying to get him back on track with a newer PC anda working printer. I have tried both Windows 10 and now Windows XP. Windows 10 was no good becaus it was a 64 bit system (could not get it to work with VirtualDos ether.)Windows XP is what I now am running and it gets me almost all the way but it complanes thatit cant recognize any SECKEY, the paralellport dongle. I have checked that the Bios is right setup and it shows up under windows settings,  the paralellport atleast, not the dongle.Is there any solution for this? I would like to put this back in place tomorrow for him?Any clues to a solution is welcome!Thank you a million!//Niclas D. - Nic iT - Sweeden

You didn't happen to install a PCIe parallel port board did you in this newer PC?  If so, did you enable legacy Plug and Play detection in your Device Manager?

Thank you, no it was on the motherboard, and I tested both with or without Plug and Play settings, no diffrence. :(

Perhaps the problem is with the dongle itself?  Anyway, my approach would have been to duplicate the original setup (i.e. - a Windows 98 computer).  I assume that you are running the program in Windows 98 compatibility mode correct?
Note: There is an article on the SCRIBD (www.scribd.com) website entitled "Running Generic CADD in Windows XP".  Have you seen it?  I stumbled across it while searching "CADD6" & "Windows XP".John Connor2022-12-01 12:47:15

Thank you for taking the time to answer me and for the link you gave me. I have checked it but I could only see the first page, I had to subscribe, maby I will do so in the future.I actually gave up on it and found another (not quite as satisfying solution) to the problem. We kept running Generic CAD on the old Windows 98 computer and converted and trasfered the files though 3.5" floppy files to an external USB-floppy and to a new computer.This way my costumer can keep working on his old computer with his old software but he can get the files to a newer computer with printout possibilitys.I would much rather have found a solution where he could have made the upgrade, but I was on a timeschedule and stress was building up. :D :DMaby if I get a new assignment from this costumer, I will look in to it again.
