I have become rusty on some of the basics of Auto Cad 2007, while learning other drawing programs. Can someone help me with an on going problem that I keep running into.  My problem is when I start a new dwg. I can not draw a line by merely initiating the line command picking the start point and  moving the pointer in the direction required and then entering the length of the line.  Is this a setting problem or does it have todo with the default template acad.dwt?   Please help!     Senor Dorado

What are your Units settings(UN)? If the drawing units settings “Length type” is set to DECIMAL, then, only the length is to be entered (without the unit e.g. 2 or3 etc.)
This might be the solution of your problem.
Again if you want to enter the length in feet or inches (for e.g. 2' or 2” etc.), you will need to set the drawing units to “ARCHITECTURAL”.
Also, you can reply if you are facing any different kind of problem.
Enjoy learning!

I found the problem to be the Units setting of Decimals and the solution , just as you suggested, to be resetting the Units to Architecture. Also found that the Engineering units setting did the the trick as well. You don't know irritating a simple little thing like this can be, especially when you're ready to rock and roll and you can't get er done!   many thanks      Senor Dorado
