Are you running your AutoCAD program on a networked system or a single user system?  If you can load and change the old 2000ver file in AutoCAD 2011 you should have no problem saving it again as either a 2000 file or a 2010 file (the native file format of AutoCAD 2011).Dave

This is probably only a problem of access rights to your disk folders. AutoCAD DWG files are fully compatible "upwards" (so version 2011 will load your 2010-files).

Or perhaps saving to another user's folders? Or saving to \Program Files or to the root folder of your disk?

We still don't know much about your problem.  If you load the 2000 file into AutoCAD 2011 you don't have any problems with the drawing, right?  What happens if you "save as" this file as a 2010 version file to the same directory as the original file?  What about save as to a newly created drawing folder?  Do you continue to get the "no permission" error?Dave.

What version of Windows 7 are you running?  Example: Home Edition Is Windows 7 32-bit or 64-bit?Are you running WinXP in a virtual machine?I am assuming WinXP is 32-bit.  Am I correct? This sounds like a "permissions" problem to me and it does not have anything to do with the drawing file itself.I currently run Win7 Ultimate 64-bit and have both 32-bit versions and 64-bit versions of AutoCAD running on the same computer.  And I have only one folder that I store all my drawings in.
