Setup multiple VPORTS years ago. Now can't seem to get it correct.I only use model space and paperspace.   

Paper space viewports can be set up using the MVIEW command.  I'd recommend creating a separate layer for your viewports and designate them as "no print" in the Layer Properties Manager.  That way they will appear on your screen yet not be printed.  I would also recommend that once a viewport is set up the way you want that you lock the display so the viewport scale won't be inadvertently changed.
