HI,I want to slice an object, but when I specify the slicing plane, it slices this object by this plane till eternity, but I just want the object to be sliced by a certain area of the plane, how can i do this?In the link you can see an image of my problem, it's a topview of my model, the toruslike thing is the object i want to slice, the 5 red lines you can see, which are rotated by 72 degrees each, are the upper lines of 5 rectangles. Now I want the torus to be sliced by each of the rectangles, but just by the rectangles, because if you extend these rectangles the torus is also sliced on the other side of the 'hole' in the torus, so I don't get 5 identical pieces.http://img708.imageshack.us/i/probleem.jpg/I hope you understand my problem and that you can help meLots of thanks in advanceNiels

I would offer an opinion but while viewing your image it triggered my antivirus program.  Could you just post the image here as it would be so much easier and safer.

Instead of using rectangles why not extrude lines (which result in surfaces) then use the Slice with Surface option?John Connor2011-03-08 11:50:49

I would like to post an image here John, but I don't know how...I've tried what you said and formed a surface which cuts all the way through one side of the torus, but still there is a problem:this is what autocad says:Command: sliceSelect objects to slice: 1 foundSelect objects to slice:Specify start point of slicing plane or [planar Object/Surface/Zaxis/View/XY/YZ/ZX/3points] <3points>: sSelect a surface:The Boolean operation on solid and/or surface bodies failed.Modeling Operation Error:     Inconsistent face-body relationships.SLICE failed for selected entity.I don't know what the problem is, I've tried forming the toruslike thing both by lofting and revolving a spline and I tried creating the slicing surface both by extracting a line and sweeping it across a vertical line and the slicing surface always went all the way through the part of the object I wanted to be sliced, but every time it replies the text above..I'll post the link with the image with the surfaces instead of the previous image with the rectangles anyway, hope you can see it..thanks for the help!
