I write to inquire if CAD technology is capable of creating 3D renderings from 2D images.  Hoping for a short list of products.

My guess that would be unattainable.  A rendering can be created from a CAD drawing if it is done in 3D and materials are applied.  How would one accomplish that using 2D images?

Much thanks for your timely reply.  Knew this was a long shot but worth asking.  I seek to find a CAD rendering for a rare engine.  I would thing that for regularly shaped objects dimensions could be entered.  For irregular shaped components would there be a way to manually enter dimensions, curves, etc.  Your opinion is welcome.

What rare engine are you talking about?People model all types of things; some are very common while others aren't.  You would have to do a search and see if you could locate this engine you speak of.I'm not sure what your point is about dimensions.  They would only be of importance if 1) you were creating a 3D model from scratch or 2) you somehow needed to take dimensions off of a 3D model. I've got to get on the road here.  I'll check this thread tomorrow.
