I have various sheet templates in both .DWT and .DWG format. In both formats the sheets look fine; however, when I bring the (.dwg) template into another drawing by means of the layout tab, the type-written elements on the sheet lose all of their formatting. The drawn element - the sheet size - appears OK. Any idea what might be causing the hiccup?Regards

What is a "type-written element"?  Is it Text or MText or is it something you created in MS Word then cut and pasted into the drawing?

It was MText

I cannot come up with a reasonable explanation for why that should happen or even how it could happen. My quick test did not encounter any such problem.  I created the text in model space using MText then did a copy/paste to a layout in a totally different drawing.  All formatting was retained.Attach a copy of the text, or portion thereof, you are having problems with to your next post.

Thanks John,I think I've probably made some mistake in setting up the whole template and not just the text element. I'd copied it from another and then scaled up from A3 to A2 and A1, although I'm having probs with all of them. I'm going to start again and see what happens. Thanks anywayStephen

One other thing that I have noticed is that the A3 template, which perfectly scale at 420x297 in the template, is reading 42000x29700 in the drawing that I am bringing it in to. What on earth have I done wrong?Stephen

What on earth have I done wrong? The attached screenshots show:1. The pagesetup manager seems to be uncontrollable - set at 1:1000 despite me constantly setting it to 1:1. Is this causing the above problem.2. Shows the page as I want it - sorry about the resolution3. Shows the page as it's coming in to the drawing tab.Stephenuploads/386289/Screenshot_3.pdf

If you are bringing it in with Insert, and the host drawing contains a text Style of the same name but defined differently [different font and/or different fixed height or one has a fixed height and not the other], it would have results like that.  If you are bringing it in with Xref, it shouldn't matter, because the text Style name in the Xref will have a prefix that will distinguish it from that in the host drawing, even if otherwise the names are the same.

Thank you Kent. As noted, I am using the (layout?) tabs adjacent to the Model tab. I right click and select 'From Template'. There are pre-existing blocks sharing the same name in other tabs, where an older template drawing sheet exists, but the message I get when bringing the new template in to a new tab is that the 'duplicate blocks' are ignored - and I have proved that that is true by deleting and purging those blocks from the older drawing sheets before bringing in the new template - I still get the same distorted effect but without getting the message about duplicate blocks. As you will see, I am now realising that there is a seconday/supplementary problem, in that I cannot seem to get my Template page set-up to register anything other than a scale of 1:1000 - no matter how often I set it back to 1:1 it reverts to 1000. What is the over-ride on this? It seems to be what is causing the template to come in to my drawing at the size I described rather than a standard A3 as it is in my template drawing; whether it is also causing the distortion of my MText I don't know. Most peculiar.Stephen

How about we cut directly to the chase?  Attach a copy of the drawing (DWG file) to your next post so we can look at it ourselves.  I think that would be the best option here.

It usually isn't good form to hijack a thread of another forum member by appending your own, unrelated, question to it.I see your Profile lists Dradftsight as the program you are using.  You do know that for the most part this is an AutoCAD forum don't you?Did you post your question at the Draftsight forum too?Blocks of all types can be found via a search of the Internet.  All you need do is use good search criteria.

Thanks. And I'm sorry. Very new to all of this. Just was asking for help. Did not intend to offend or be out of hand. Just a newbie looking for a helping hand. Thanks for your help and your response.

Did you find the blocks you were looking for?Click on the link below.http://partnerproducts.autodesk.com/catalog/category.asp?category=1228It will take you to the AutoDesk Partner Products and Services website.  Look for #4020 HVAC-Lib.  A library of HVAC blocks can be purchased for $75 U.S.  Pretty reasonable price if you ask me.  The blocks should work in Draftsight too.Did you look here at the CADforum under the category Piping, P&ID > HVAC?Here's another website....http://www.cadcorner.ca/cadblocks/hvacblocks.phpAnd one last one...http://www.cadblocksfree.com/index.php?id=97A little effort goes a long way.
