Hi - I'm new, and can't locate an answer to my question (or similar question).I work from home occasionally, and email the CAD files to myself from work. When I save the file on my pc, the original file paths are incorrect.I work from my C:\ at home and Z:\ at work.Anyone know of a solution, so that I don't have to re-attach my references every time (time consuming)? Thanks!

Use eTransmit to bundle your work files into a single .zip instead of sending individual files.  When you unzip and run them at home AutoCAD will know how to find things.

For myself, I carry a 16 GB USB stick with me everywhere I go.  Email is too slow.

I do about the same as Dave and use a flash drive.  I seldom email drawings to myself unless I forgot my flash drive which is not very often.

I've actually nicknamed mine "the Amex card" because I never leave home without it.

Actually, the problem wasn't the method of getting it to my home pc, it was fixing up all of the xref file paths once it got there. However, I did figure out how to use the FILE REFERENCES toolbox, where I can change the path of the file to the correct one by scrolling down in the DETAILS section and clicking beside FOUND AT.Thanks for everyone's input

That's kind of the beauty of the eTransmit zip file.  When you package a project up that way AutoCAD gathers all of the support files for you in one place.  When you open it up later (on another computer) it knows how to find all the important files.  The original paths don't have to be the same.  So you work on things and simply repackage the eTransmit zip when you're done or just bring the one or two files back to work that you changed at home.

eTransmit helps you avoid that feeling of frustration when you can't work because there was something besides just the main file you needed.  It's not just for email.

I always use eTransmit these time. I wonder if any of you already use Autodesk 360 for this purpose? Any thoughts?

Autodesk 360 (the "Cloud") is a nice idea, unfortunately for many of us the Autodesk terms of usage make utilizing it a dismissable offense.

Use flash card - it is safer and more reliable. U know u always have what you need and it is not dependent on pc issues.Edwards19882012-06-29 14:40:18
