Last weekend I ran the Zombie Chase 5k obstacle course with my oldest son for the second year in a row. Last year it was held during the heat of the day in a field. This year it was an awesome location held at night under a full moon and in an old mining/ghost town. It is like a 5k run combined with obstacles and a haunted house mixed in. We got to run through houses, old railroad caboose, town streets, all while having hungry zombies chasing us. We did get revenge in the end where there was a paintball gun area and we could shoot the zombies with paintballs. It was a total blast and thousands participated. There so many of these adventure type of runs from mud runs to Spartan runs to Color me Rad runs where you throw dyed powder at each other. It must be a business for some as there seems to be a new one each week. The Spartan Beast is this weekend in scenic Midway Utah where people will run, climb, crawl in mud under barbwire, jump fire, swim, get hit with pugil sticks, carry logs sand and rocks, and do many burpee exercises for a brutal 16k trail, and they pay good money for this challenging punishment.. In my opinion the adventure/obstacle runs make a physical challenge fun and result in healthy active people. Some of the runs even benefit good causes which is always a good thing. In the next two months I am going to do the Dirty Dash, Spartan, Kiss Me Dirty (for woman but men can join the race if they wear a dress). I also heard of another race locally the Mud-O-Cross 5k that will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and am looking into joining that one in a team. Some of the photos from the Zombie Chase 5k 2013 My oldest son in front of me going up stairs out of the downtown area, but not for long as I crossed the finish line before him and his youth.   The streets were full of zombies on this full moon night. Some of the baby zombies were cute, but they are zombies so you have to beware. Color Me Rad finish line Have you done any of these adventure and challenge obstacle runs? Cheers, ShaanGo to the original post...
