Hello MAYFAB, from what you say I supose that you want to dimension a 3D drawing and that will lead you setting UCS for each of your dimensions ( or use "ctrl D" active ).
For my 3D drawings I have set 3 UCS so that I can dimension in the first isometric view, dimension in the YZ plan, XZ plan.
I named G+ , 01 and 02 so that I can easily have them back.
You will have to know all about UCS settings.
If it's for a 2D drawing I hope that you use the AutoCAD settings for this :
Eventually, see my DWG file in the Cad Blocks library : 2D-ISOMETRIC_DRAWINGS_1[1].dwg + examples : 2D-ISOMETRIC_DRAWINGS_2[1].dwg so we can talk more.

Is this a 2D or 3D isometric?  If it is 2D then it is a matter of creating a couple of text and dimension styles first.

Does anyone know how to dimension an isometric drawing?

Am drawing up pipe runs and wish to dimension pipe take-offs.

I can not get the dimension lines to be in the same plane as the pipe or take off, makes the drawing look very ordinary and difficult to read.
