Hello Darnell, it's not a problem to use AutoCAD MEP and Solidworks if you use 3D with AutoCAD.
There are some things to know when openning 3D DWG files on Solidworks to use AutoCAD as a 2D sketch or 3D volumes.
You will have to set correctly the units ( mm , inches , etc... ) if not it's going to be NOT OK. 
If I understand correctly, your customer wil give you 3D Solidworks for you to take out detail drawings on AutoCAD ?
You will have to get a .sat file with the good options.
Ask for more.

I will be working with a contracter overseas that uses Solidworks to draw ductwork. I use Autocad MEP, I do not have any experience with Solidworks, I have watched a few videos and it appears it is more for creating detailed parts. Will Autocad MEP blow them out of the water for creating different systems and complicated offsetting duct runs?
