Change the system variable FILEDIA from "0" to "1" and see if that fixes the problem.

I am using autocad 2009 mep, when trying to open a new drawing or an old drawing I click on the icon, but instead of a box appearing which enables my to select a file, the command line askes me to enter the name of the drawing to open as I have many drawing on a network this is a problem.
