I'm trying to get back into the construction industry and am interested in becoming a CAD technician but I'm having a couple of problems on how i should enter.

I graduated as a 2:1 civil & structural engineer during the uk job crash and opted work in my family business after struggling for years to find work, many years on i feel like I've completely wasted my life and want to get back into a similar field. I've applied for civil and construction tech apprenticeships but was told my degree stops me from re-entering a similar field.

I'm now trying for Junior roles but even these seem to require 1 year experience with autocad, I've been taught autocad throughout my course but not to a point where i'd be comfortable using it without extra training, i had like a 1 hr tutorial exercise in revit which i felt was pitiful.

Anyway i was hoping i could get some insight as to how best to get into this career or whether it's a viable option for me, i can go to college for a refresher but if that doesn't really guarantee anything then i'll be back to where i was.

So far the only clear career option to get into a similar field seems involve joining the royal engineers, exciting maybe, not too keen on it though.
